EPA Announces $1 Billion for PFAS Mitigation in Drinking Water
The U.S. EPA has announced nearly $1 billion in new funding to states to address PFAS contamination in drinking water. The agency has also issued two proposed rules for public comment as part of its ongoing efforts to regulate emerging contaminants.
This funding is intended to help states and territories implement solutions for detecting and removing PFAS from public water systems. The initiative is a major component of the EPA's strategy to address the health risks associated with per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances.
In addition to the funding, the EPA is moving forward with regulatory actions by proposing new rules. These rules are currently open for public comment, allowing stakeholders to provide input on the proposed standards for water quality.
This announcement reflects the agency's intensified focus on emerging contaminants and the need for advanced treatment technologies. The funding will be distributed to states to support local water utilities in their efforts to provide safe drinking water.
