Virginia American Water announced that capital investments in drinking water and wastewater infrastructure across its service territories totaled $54.3 million. The infrastructure expenditures targeted facility renewals, lift station overhauls, and distribution pipe replacements.
Capital investments focused heavily on modernizing legacy treatment units to meet emerging environmental regulations and replacing vulnerable collection and distribution lines prone to infiltration and inflow. Upgraded pump stations also incorporate automated telemetry to prevent sewer overflows during heavy rainfall.
The utility stated that routine reinvestment into aging subterranean systems remains necessary to prevent catastrophic collection failures, lower long-term operating costs, and protect regional receiving waters across the Commonwealth.
