Dewatering and Cake Storage

Belt filter presses, centrifuges, and screw presses all produce a dewatered cake — but the cake character varies, affecting downstream handling.

Belt filter presses typically achieve 15-20% solids cake, simple operation, moderate energy use — common at smaller and medium plants.

Centrifuges typically achieve 20-30% solids cake, higher capital cost than belt presses, efficient use of space, and effective on a wide range of solids — common at larger plants.

Screw presses typically achieve 18-22% solids cake, gentler on polymer, lower energy than centrifuges — increasingly favored for mid-range applications.

Cake storage — typically on concrete pads or in shallow bunkers — must account for odor, leachate runoff, and the regulatory need to keep cake contained until disposal or beneficial use.
