Pumping System Efficiency

Pump energy scales with the cube of speed, making VFD control one of the most impactful efficiency levers available.

Because pump energy consumption scales roughly with the cube of speed, even modest VFD-enabled speed reductions can produce outsized energy savings compared to a fixed-speed pump throttled by a valve.

A pump operating far from its best efficiency point on its performance curve wastes energy regardless of whether it's technically meeting flow requirements; periodic pump curve checks against actual operating conditions catch this.

Trimming an oversized impeller to better match actual system conditions is a lower-cost alternative to full pump replacement when a pump was originally sized for a higher flow than the system now requires.

Right-sizing lift station and pump station pumps during a planned replacement, based on actual current flow rather than blindly matching the original design, is a common missed efficiency opportunity.
