Polymer Activation Systems

Polymer Activation Systems

Dry and emulsion polymer both need proper activation before they'll perform as dosed.

Dry polymer needs adequate mixing energy and activation time (typically 30-60 minutes) to fully hydrate before use.

Emulsion polymer needs proper inversion mixing to break the emulsion and release the active polymer component.

Activated polymer solution degrades with age, typically losing effectiveness beyond 24-72 hours depending on product and dilution; aging is a frequent hidden cause of dosing complaints.

Watch for: inconsistent floc formation despite a stable dose rate, often traced back to solution age rather than the dose itself.

Water temperature used for dilution affects activation speed directly — cold makeup water (common in winter) can require extended aging time to reach the same activation level achieved faster with warmer water.

Mother/daughter tank systems (a small, freshly-mixed 'mother' batch diluted further into a larger 'daughter' feed tank) help maintain more consistent activation than feeding directly from a single large aging tank.
