Shift Roles and Responsibilities

Different shifts serve different purposes — day shift does the sampling, evening shift does the rounds, night shift does the deep monitoring.

Day shift typically handles most sampling, lab work, and external coordination (deliveries, contractors, regulator visits). Expect the day shift operator to be the visible face of the plant.

Evening shift focuses on rounds and process adjustments; less external interaction, more plant-floor work. Often the shift most likely to catch a developing problem before it becomes a morning emergency.

Night shift handles deep monitoring and trending — quieter, less interruption, but requires strong self-discipline and the ability to handle an event solo if one develops.

Each shift should understand its supporting role to the other two — the day shift that leaves a developing issue undocumented sets up the evening operator to fail.
