Routine Sampling
Standard sample points and frequencies for influent, effluent, and in-process monitoring.
Permit-required effluent sampling frequency and parameters are defined in your NPDES permit. Missing a required sample is treated as a reporting violation regardless of actual water quality.
In-process samples (mixed liquor, RAS, primary effluent) are typically collected more frequently than permit-required samples to support day-to-day process control decisions.
Composite samples (collected over time, proportional to flow) are used for most permit parameters; grab samples are used for parameters that change quickly, like pH, DO, and residual chlorine.
Sample bottle preservation and holding time requirements vary by parameter — a correctly collected sample can still be invalidated by late or improper preservation.
