Ferric/Lime Conditioning for Dewatering
Chemical conditioning alternative or supplement to polymer, especially for lime-stabilized biosolids programs.
Ferric chloride and lime conditioning improve dewaterability by a different mechanism than polymer, useful where polymer alone underperforms on a difficult sludge.
Lime addition also raises pH significantly, which can serve dual purposes: improving dewatering performance and helping meet Class B pathogen reduction requirements.
Combined chemical and polymer conditioning adds cost and complexity, so it's typically reserved for sludges that don't dewater adequately with polymer alone.
