Chlorination for Filament Control

Low-dose RAS chlorination selectively targets filaments extending outside the floc, without killing the whole biomass.

Because filaments extend beyond the floc's protective structure, they're exposed to a chlorine dose that floc-forming bacteria inside the structure are partly shielded from.

Typical starting dose is low, often 1-3 lbs chlorine per 1,000 lbs MLSS per day, then adjusted based on filament index response over several days.

Overdosing damages floc-forming organisms too and can worsen settling; this is a control tool to buy time while the root cause (DO, F/M, septicity) is fixed, not a substitute for fixing it.
