Bioaugmentation for Nitrification
Adding cultured nitrifying bacteria to speed recovery after a toxic event or seasonal washout.
Commercial nitrifier bioaugmentation products introduce a concentrated, cultured population of ammonia- and nitrite-oxidizing bacteria directly to the aeration basin.
Most useful after a documented toxic event or in early spring startup, where natural regrowth would otherwise take multiple sludge ages.
Bioaugmentation supplements but doesn't replace addressing the root cause — added organisms face the same DO, pH, and toxicity conditions that limited the native population.
