Station Siting & Flood Protection

Location choices made at design time determine long-term vulnerability to flooding and access issues.

Pump stations sited within a flood plain need electrical and control equipment elevated above the design flood elevation, not just the structure itself, to remain operational during a flood event.

Site access for emergency vactor trucks and generators matters as much as the station's own design; a station that floods access roads during the same storm that drives peak flow creates a compounding emergency.

Perimeter fencing, security lighting, and access control are standard for unstaffed stations given both safety liability and the risk of vandalism to exposed control panels.

A station sited too close to residential property without adequate odor or noise mitigation planning is a common source of ongoing community complaints regardless of how well the station itself performs mechanically.
