Summary
Veolia Water Technologies is seeking a dedicated Wastewater Treatment Operator for our facility in Bridgeport, West Virginia. As a global leader in environmental services and resource regeneration, Veolia designs and implements innovative solutions for depollution and ecological transformation. In this vital role, you will be responsible for controlling and monitoring the wastewater treatment plant systems and equipment to purify water and ensure that treated effluent meets all stringent environmental and safety standards before being released. This position heavily impacts clean water sustainability by managing wastewater from various residential, commercial, and industrial sources. The operator will work primarily on 12-hour night shifts in a dynamic, heavy industrial environment that includes both indoor and outdoor work. You will navigate a challenging setting involving extreme weather conditions, loud noises, and potentially hazardous chemicals. This role offers an incredible opportunity to make a tangible environmental impact while growing your career with a world-renowned organization that provides competitive compensation and day-one benefits.
Wastewater Responsibilities
The Wastewater Operator will be tasked with comprehensively controlling the wastewater treatment plant processes. Core duties include operating, monitoring, and adjusting electric motors, pumps, valves, and chemical feed systems to regulate water flow and optimize treatment phases. The operator will routinely collect wastewater samples from various stages of the treatment cycle and utilize laboratory analysis tools to perform chemical and biological testing. By analyzing this lab data, you will identify potential treatment issues and execute necessary process adjustments to maintain environmental compliance. You will also monitor SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems, responding promptly to alarms and operational variances. Routine facility upkeep is required, including executing preventative maintenance on heavy machinery, inspecting infrastructure for wear or damage, and completing minor repairs. Operators must maintain highly detailed and accurate regulatory records of all plant activities, flow rates, and chemical inventories. You will closely coordinate with fellow operators, maintenance staff, and Veolia management to ensure seamless, safe facility operations, constantly adhering to strict safety protocols regarding chemical handling and hazard mitigation.
Qualifications
Candidates must possess a High School Diploma or GED, coupled with a strong mechanical aptitude and a genuine willingness to learn complex water treatment processes. A state-issued entry-level wastewater treatment license or certification is highly preferred, as is a background in environmental science, engineering, or industrial plant operations. Applicants must demonstrate familiarity with SCADA systems, laboratory analysis equipment, and mechanical maintenance tools. Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to make real-time process changes based on analytical lab data and general process knowledge are essential. The role demands excellent communication and teamwork capabilities to coordinate with facility management effectively. Candidates must be comfortable working 12-hour shifts, primarily designated as night shifts, and be adaptable to changing schedules. Rigorous physical requirements must be met, including the ability to safely lift and carry up to 75 pounds, climb vertical ladders up to 30 feet, stand for extended periods, walk on uneven surfaces, and maneuver safely within tight, confined spaces. The ability to safely operate industrial equipment, such as forklifts and extension ladders, in a potentially hazardous environment is also required.
